The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio

by Jane Wangersky September 27th, 2010 | Nonfiction
Terry Ryan, a poet and cartoonist, tells the story of her equally talented mother, Evelyn, whose rhymes and slogans won contests through the 1950s and 60s in The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio: How My Mother Raised 10 Kids on 25 Words or Less. When this book was first released in English in January of 2009, it quickly became the number one selling book in America; if you have not seen

Sometimes, as a parent, you are fortunate enough to find a picture book that tells a good story or teaches a lesson.  Eukie: The Food Retriever is a great story that teaches a lesson, and more.  Filled with whimsical pictures, this book also includes a CD of the similarly titled song.  In addition, there are lyrics and sheet music to the song at the back of the book.

Written by Jared Bracci, this book tells the story of Eukie (pronounced oo-kie) the golden retriever.  Eukie adores food of all kinds, including kids' school snacks and the neighbor's trash.  He eats
