The Maximum Ride series is a fun and thrilling series about six kids who have 98% human genes and 2% avian genes; because of this two percent avian genetics they have wings, lighter bones, and air sacs. The “flock” includes Maximum (a.k.a Max), Fang, Iggy (who is blind), Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel. Everybody in the flock grew up in the School which is filled with doctors and lab geeks.
The flock is off on an adventure, an adventure to save the world. Although it’s not as easy as it looks; it’s not all “good guy always wins and bad guy always loses”, especially with the genetic freaks that they are fighting. They are called Erasers and nobody is quite sure what their genetics are. They look like giant muscle heads that are covered head to toe with hair and their hands have incredibly long claws. Not to mention the long snout like mouth with giant, sharp canines.
Along the flock’s journey you follow them through a multitude of fights, and not just against Erasers – like any normal family they have many arguments over many different things.
Angel is easily the most important member of the flock because, despite her only being six, she is a genius. She can read minds and control them. She can also send thoughts into your mind. Not only that, but she can breathe underwater and talk to animals because of the mind control thing. Although, that’s not to say that nobody else in the flock is important.
Max is the flock leader because she is the oldest, smartest, and possibly even the strongest. She is also a very logical thinker, and when it comes to combat she is quite lethal. As is Fang, who is 14, just like Max. Iggy is a very interesting person. He is blind due to an experiment that went wrong in the School. Both he and Gazzy, 8, had a love for explosives. You could give them just about anything and they would find a way to make it explode. Last, but not least, is Nudge who is the typical teenage fashionista although she is only 11.
Throughout the book, the flock goes across the country to save Angel, who has been captured by the terrible Erasers. You will get sucked into this series by only reading one chapter. The series is filled with twists and turns, as the flock saves their youngest member.
