Ah, yes, spring has arrived finally. The sun is out, the air is warmer and it’s nice to be outside after being cooped up inside for months. So, be sure to come out of your comfort zone and experience life outside again. Bring your books and read them in cafés, parks or even just the patio outside your house.
And to accompany that, here is a list of books for your spring reading.
The Secret Life Of Syrian Lingerie (Rana Salam and Malu Halasa)
According to other websites, “the most outrageous and exuberant lingerie in the world can only be found in a place you won’t expect: Syria”. Syrian lingerie are decorated with faux fur artificial flowers, plastic toy cellphones, even lights and music that vibrates. Malu Halasa, a London-based journalist, and Rana Salam, a graphic designer, illustrates this through The Secret life Of Syrian Lingerie with photography and writing.
Her Fearful Symmetry (Audrey Niffenegger)
Her Fearful Symmetry is Audrey Niffenegger’s second book (after The Time Traveler’s Wife). This is the story of Julia and Valentina Poole, 20-year-old American twins, who are left the flat and belongings of Elspeth Noblin, their mother’s estranged twin and their aunt. They take this opportunity to move to London and live in the same building occupied by Martin (their aunt’s former lover), Robert (an agoraphobic crossword-creator), and the spirit of Elspeth herself, within the borders of Highgate Cemetery. They soon realize there’s much to learn about the residents of Highgate Cemetery.
Hannah’s List (Debbie Macomber)
To be released in May 2010, Hannah’s List is the story of Dr. Michael Everett, who received a letter from his late wife, Hannah, on her death anniversary. Hannah reminds him that she loves him and that she has one final request: he remarry. She’s chosen three women who’ll make his remaining years very happy. He grants Hannah’s request and spends time with the three women, leading him to the woman who can help him find love.
What are you waiting for? Grab your books and read them out in the open, under the sun.
