The Giver Quartet

by Louise August 3rd, 2012 | Fiction, Young Adults
Earlier this year there was an article posted here on BB about Lois Lowry's  The Giver, a children's fiction novel about a dystopian society. Did you know that The Giver (1993) is actually part of what was once a trilogy and is soon to become a quartet? Here's a bit about the rest of the books in the bunch:

  • Gathering Blue (2000). This companion novel to The Giver takes place in the same future time period and takes on some of the same themes as its predecessor, but is instead about a young disabled girl named Kira. Kira

by Louise June 7th, 2012 | Fiction, Young Adults
Why We Broke Up is a so-called "young adult" novel written by Daniel Handler. If you don't recognize the name Daniel Handler perhaps his pseudonym Lemony Snicket will ring a bell. Yep, he's that guy: the author of the Series of Unfortunate Events, which features the three Baudelaire orphans. With a famous series like that, you can't expect this guy to publish some happy-go-lucky story, right? That's why it came as no surprise when Mr. Handler brought us Why We Broke Up.

Why We Broke Up tells the story of Min Green and Ed Slaterton, who are breaking up. Because

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter

by Kaitlin May 17th, 2012 | Fiction, Young Adults
When I recently saw a preview for Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, I thought it had to be a joke. Perhaps The Onion had infiltrated actual movie theaters?
